The Role of Poly-Herbal Extract in Sodium Chloride-Induced Oxidative Stress and Hyperlipidemia in Male Wistar Rats

Consistent consumption of high salt diet (HSD) has been associated with increased cellular generation free radicals, which implicated in the derangement some vital organs and etiology cardiovascular disorders. This study was designed to investigate combined effect commonly employed medicinal plants on serum lipid profile antioxidant status aorta, kidney, liver diet-fed animals. Out total fifty male Wistar rats obtained, fifteen were used for acute toxicity study, while remaining thirty-five divided into 5 groups 7 animals each. Group 1 2 fed normal rat chow (NRC) 16% only, respectively. Animals 3, 4 HSD 800, 400, 200 mg/kg bw poly-herbal extract (PHE), respectively, once 28 consecutive days. Serum low-density lipoprotein (LDL), triacylglycerol (TG), cholesterol (TC) high-density (HDL), malondialdehyde, nitric oxide, catalase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, concentration, activities assessed liver. Poly-herbal (p < 0.05) significantly reduced malondialdehyde oxide concentrations also enzymes activity. Elevated TG, TC, LDL, TC content HSD-fed PHE-treated HDL elevated a concentration-dependent manner PHE treated Feeding attenuated high-salt imposed experimental rats.
